Upon arriving on scene Chief Buckman found a large 2-story single family dwelling heavily involved in fire at the roof level. About 25% of the roof was on fire and had already burned through in 15% of the area. There were 3 cars in the driveway and no signs of occupants at or around the structure. There was no one on the street. The first engine laid out from a fire hydrant about 300 feet from the residence. Deavron Farmer was assigned as the exterior division. The Blitzfire line was deployed around the back of the structure to begin knockdown from the ground. Gas utilities were controlled and Vectren Electric was requested for the electricity shut off. As additional assistance arrived it was decided to begin a rapid primary search of the structure. Teams were assembled and four personnel were deployed to complete the primary search as rapidly as they possibly could. Outside lines were turned off and the team went inside. After about 10 minutes the evacuation signal was sounded and personnel left the building. The interior search team reported they were about 75% complete. Exterior lines were deployed again and water was applied to the roof area. After knockdown was accomplished from the exterior, crews returned to the interior and began overhaul. Secondary search was completed although neighbors had reported the occupants were out of town. Sheriff Department did contact the owner in Chicago and confirm that there were no occupants in the structure.
