House Fire on Hot Day
At the hottest time of the day (June 22 at 13:46) the tone dropped for a basement fire on Orchard Rd. Chief Buckman was first on scene and he confirmed that we had smoke showing at all parts of residence. 8E7 was right behind and three firefighters, Captain Nick Raber, Lt. David Magary and Firefighter Tim Winters were packed up and entered the front door and worked their way through the rooms. The smoke was so thick that they were forced to use the thermal camera to find the way to the basement stairway. Just as they approached the doorway they were hit with a blast of heat. The crew went down and knocked down the flames in short order. Firefighter Ben Woodard established positive pressure ventilation at the front door. Captains Nick Adams and Susan Wargel along with McCutchanville and Scott personnel assisted with interior operations. The fire was extinguished quickly with minimal additional damage. On a hot humid day like this it sure was nice to have help from McCuthanville and Scott. Water and ice were welcome sights to everyone.
