What is the Suburban Fire Chiefs Association?

The Suburban Fire Chiefs Association is made up of the McCutchanville Fire Department, Scott Township Fire Department, Perry Township Fire Department, Knight Township Fire Department and, of course, German Township Fire Department.   Each of these departments have reciprocal agreements with each other to assist in providing personnel and equipment were one of the department's manpower not enough.   The best example of mutual aid was the  tornado on Nov. 6 (2005)at Eastbrook Mobile Home Park.

Those departments are responsible for the area to the west, north, and east of the City of the Evansville not protected by the municipal coverage provided by the Evansville Fire Department.

All of these departments are dispatched from a county dispatch.  The dispatch uses a special tone to activate the radios and pagers of the appropriate fire department.  After being dispatched the department's vehicles and personnel use a special numbering system to denote who is talking on the two way radio. You can listen to Volunteer Fire Central Dispatch communications at the frequency of 154.220 Megahertz and German Township Fire Dept. communications on 154.235 Megahertz.

Once a Chief -always a Chief

At the March 7th (2005) meeting of the Suburban Fire Association, a special Presentation was made to Chief Bob Doerr of Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department. Here is Chief John Buckman's speech at the presentation of the "Chief's Ring" and some pictures at the event.

Not everyone can be a Fire Chief.

It takes a special person to accept the responsibility and duties of a Fire Chief.

It especially takes a unique individual to become a Volunteer Fire Chief.

There are many officers within a fire department but only one Fire Chief.

And in many departments “once you are a Chief – you are always a Chief”.

It is that “one” individual that can make a department soar with the eagles.

I am here this evening to present to Chief Bob Doerr a token of appreciation from his peers.

The members of the Suburban Fire Chiefs Association recognize Chief Bob Doerr for his dedication, commitment, enthusiasm and perseverance as Chief of the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department and hereby present the “Chiefs Ring”.
