Fire erupted at approximately 1030 hours on September 4, 2006. First arriving units of
the Mt. Vernon Fire Department found the showroom area heavily involved in fire.
An aggressive interior attack was thwarted due to a shortage of water. Although
there are hydrants across the street from the Home Center there was not enough water
to suppress the fire. Mutual Aid was requested for tankers.
Black Township, New Harmony, Point Township, German Township, Perry Township, Poseyville,
Marrs Township, New Haven IL and Shawneetown IL Fire Departments responded to the call
for tankers. Water was drafted from the Ohio River to refill tankers.
Cause of the fire is being investigated by the Indiana State Fire Marshal Office.
