Orchard Rd Fire

Wednesday November turned out to be a long day for some of the firefighters of German Township Fire Department. At 3:55am they were sent to Kuebler Rd on a small but persistent fire caused by a fire place. Basement rafters were smoldering from some embers leaking from the fire place. Five or six P-cans were used to get into the narrow space.

At 8:28am the call came for a fully involved frame out building. The main house was a very near exposure. Arriving fireman found the building had already vented itself through the roof. The frame building was vacant and under our policy the fire was a defense battle from the beginning. Besides German's tankers E3 and E8, McCutchanville and Perry tankers kept E4 full while it supplied E7. After the fire was under control the building was laddered and and crews worked on the roof while others entered the building to mop up. The last 3000 gallons of water were supplemented with foam and a piercing nozzle was used on the roof debris to cool off hot spots.
