German Township Volunteer Fire Department Professional Volunteers Faithfully Serving |
The goal of the fire department is not to put out a
fire, but prevent them. We respond to
approximately 120 fire-related calls each year.
In the fall, grass fires make up the largest percentage of these calls. The primarily cause is due to the illegal burning of leaves and grass that simply get out of control of the person who started the fire.
House fires occur year round but typically there is an upswing just as winter is beginning. Take a look at some tips on winterizing your home on our safety page. One of the positives to fire fighting is that the frequency of these types of calls have been reduced dramatically because of the widespread use of smoke detectors.
The remainder of the
fire-related calls are for the township's businesses. There are a variety of reasons businesses can
have a fire, but it is often due to the storage or use of
flammable materials on-site, electrical fires due to faulty wiring, and other
foreseeable problems. If you are a business owner, please contact us by
calling 812-963-9077. If you use the Contact Us form, please indicate that you'd like someone to
contact you about a safety inspection. The best way to minimize the damage
of fire is to make sure it never starts in the first place.
If you're interested in becoming a fire fighter, please take a look at our membership page for a membership form and/or the phone number to call.
